Racism in Lebanon: One step forward هل بدأ تطبيق الغاء التمييز العنصري بالمسابح؟

In the land where people have lost faith in law enforcement, where the survival of the fittest applies to every single aspect of society, there seems to be some hope.

In a step that seems to have restored some faith, a tiny bit of it (but Hey! A glimpse of light is better than utter darkness), the latest video report shown on LBCI shows that the latest policy against racism based on color of skin in public and private swimming pools is being implemented.

The video below shows a lady with darker skin, assumed to be an immigrant domestic worker, trying to enter into a privately owned public swimming pool and getting rejected. The tourism police came to the scene and fined the resort for restricting entry based on skin color.

This could only be done if people support the rights of migrant workers and people of darker skin in Lebanon.  The next time you are hanging out by the pool, getting a tan and flashing your new RayBans, make sure to report violations to the following number 1735 and report such violations.

Remember that we are a country of exporting migrant workers all over the world; let us respect the ones in our country to be respected abroad.

Kudos for the Ministry of Tourism Police for actually implementing the law, a rare thing to happen by a public agency in Lebanon…
